Art Educator Spotlight - Gary Schwartz - January 23, 2017

I'd like to introduce you to Gary Schwartz!



Gary is currently an Artist-in-Residence as well as an Adjunct Faculty member at the University of Michigan School of Art and Design in Ann Arbor, MI. He has also taught at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, MI. He has been teaching for thirty-seven years. 

Gary is an Academy Award winning filmmaker, animator, director, artist, and educator. With his company, Single Frame Films, he has produced, designed, and director animation for Disney, Sesame Street, MTV, Fox Television, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, among others. A highlight of his career was winning an Academy Award.

His favorite thing about art is "living out loud!" His favorite form of art making is animation. Gary's most memorable art moment was being called out from the stage by his high school student, Sanjay Patel, at a presentation at the Ottawa International Animation festival. He was in the audience. Sanjay Patel had just been nominated for an Academy Award. Sanjay is currently a lead animator at Pixar.
