Retired Art Educator Spotlight - Julia Tomaro - January 23, 2017

I'd like to introduce you to Julia Tomaro!

Julia taught art in grades 6th - 8th at Berkley Schools in Berkley, MI. She taught for thirty-nine years.

Her favorite thing about art is learning by doing and learning from your mistakes. She says this is what makes art so important for young minds and bodies.

Julia's favorite quote:

A memorable moment from her teaching career was taking a group of high school students to Paris. Julia was descending an escalator when their guide and all the students began singing "Julia" by the Beatles. They were ready and waiting because they knew her bus leaves on time.

Julia has been keeping busy since retiring from teaching middle school art. She taught "the Theory and Practice of Teaching Middle School Art," at Oakland University for two semesters. Currently she is writing grants for the Adrian Center for the Arts and working in clay there. She exercises at the YMCA at least four times a week and walks at home when she doesn't go to the YMCA. They also travel, mostly during the winter months.
