Art Educator Spotlight - Katie Emery - January 30, 2017

I'd like to introduce you to Katie Emery!

Katie has been the high school art teacher at Lansing Christian School for the past ten years. She loves that she is able to engage students in how to be creative for a job! She tries to make art class a refreshing change of pace from the typical school day and encourages her students to use different kinds of thinking and problem solving. Katie says, "Teaching art is the best!"

She recently earned her MATC from Michigan State University.

Katie's favorite quote:

Katie's most memorable teaching moment so far:

She has had the privilege of teaching a student from 7th grade through 12th grade. When he started taking art, he was unsure as an artist. As he grew in his abilities, art became a class where he was able to build his confidence and find enjoyment in creating. Art had become his whole life. Katie takes her students to ArtPrize every fall and this fall, they were able to see her former student proudly displaying his work at ArtPrize.
